Our Churches

The Dundrum, Newcastle & Downpatrick Circuit is comprised of three local congregations (or ‘societies’ as Methodists sometimes describe them):

Dundrum Methodist Church – Relate, Inspire, Educate

We are a small friendly congregation meeting in a refurbished building with carpet and soft seating. During the summer months visitors more than double the number attending morning worship, and several of these visitors continue to attend occasionally during the winter, due to having holiday homes in the village.  There is a lively conversational Bible study, followed by prayer, every Thursday from September to June at 2:00pm. Children are welcome, with a play area for babies and toddlers available in the church.

Apart from the church building our site contains a converted manse and a chalet which are used for meetings and for visiting residential groups.  The congregation has an excellent relationship with Revival In Our Town (RIOT), which runs a weekly ‘drop in’ centre and a homework club on our premises.

Our mission is to relate with the people of Dundrum, inviting God to inspire us as we worship Jesus Christ, educating one another in His truth.

Dundrum Methodist Church meets for worship every Sunday morning at 10.15am [directions and a map].

Newcastle Methodist Church – Share, Encourage, Worship

We gather in Jesus’ name in a Mourne granite building of Gothic design, with stained glass windows and exposed wooden roof timbers – it’s a beautiful place to worship! Our location on the Promenade in Newcastle means we try to open the church doors to the public as often as we can, offering peace in the middle of a busy world.

Our basement hall is not only used by the congregation for the small Sunday School and other activities, but also by visiting groups and charitable organisations for various purposes.

Our mission is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our neighbours, Newcastle & its visitors, and the worldencouraging one another as we worship together and throughout the week.

Newcastle Methodist Church meets for worship every Sunday morning at 11.30am [directions and a map]. We also host the Circuit Evening Fellowship (7pm 1st & 3rd Sundays) or Summer Epilogue services (8.30pm) most Sunday evenings throughout the year – these tend to be more relaxed gatherings, often involving tea/coffee, contemporary songs and discussion; see the Calendar for what’s happening this week.

Downpatrick Methodist Church – Worship, Serve, Share

We are a small friendly family of Christians, trying to share the love of Christ in our community. We are always delighted to welcome visitors or new members to our Sunday service which has a simple form, in the Methodist tradition, and children are welcome (we have a special area set aside for you!). Little ones can be accommodated in a room with play and craft facilities during the sermon.

Visitors and friends are always welcome to our mid-week Bible study that meets in homes, as well as the weekly Coffee Morning in the church. Our building is in Scotch Street, near the centre of our historic town, on the road to Saul, where St Patrick traditionally established the first church of his mission to Ireland in the fifth century AD. We joyfully share this inheritance with all our Christian neighbours.

Our mission is to worship God, to serve Downpatrick and our neighbours, sharing with them the love of Christ.
